Every registered domain has a minimum of 2 Name Server records which show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain address to the servers of a specific website hosting company. This way, you've got both your website and your e-mails handled by the exact same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there is a variety of other records, for instance A and MX. The former shows which server handles the site for a given domain name and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter shows which server deals with the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an illustration, whenever you type a domain name in your browser, your request is forwarded through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain uses and from there you will be directed to the servers of a different company provided you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having independent records for the site and the emails means you may have your website and your e-mails with two different companies if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Hosting

If you have a Linux shared hosting from our company, you will be able to view, set up and change any A or MX record for your domains. Provided that a given Internet domain has our Name Servers, you'll be able to modify particular records through our Hepsia hosting CP and have your site or emails pointed to any other provider if you wish to use only one of our services. Our advanced tool will even enable you to have a domain hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted somewhere else by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main domain address in any way. If you choose to use the e-mail services of another service provider and they want you to create more than two MX records, you can easily do that with only a couple of clicks through the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. You can also set different latency for each MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Accessing and editing the A or MX records for any of your domain names or subdomains is extremely easy if you acquire a semi-dedicated server plan through our company. The accounts are maintained using our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which includes a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domain addresses. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you may click on any of them to see both the A and the MX records. Editing any record will be as easy as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even though you may have never dealt with such matters before, you'll not experience any problems if you want to move your site or e-mails to an alternative provider while keeping the second service with our company. When necessary, you may also create additional MX records and set a certain priority in accordance with the recommendations of the new provider.
